Access Management

Description: Access management involves the planning and coordination of the location, number, spacing and design of access points from a roadway to adjacent land. Access management programs facilitate safe access to land uses along major roadways, while promoting and supporting an efficient street system, as well as unified access and internal circulation systems for development. The result is a roadway corridor that functions safely and efficiently for its useful life, provides healthier, more walkable communities and a more attractive corridor.

This chapter of the Innovative Land Use Techniques Handbook provides an overview of access management techniques and presents model ordinance language.
