Keynote Speaker:![]() Tom Kelly, Ph.D. Chief Sustainability Officer, University of New Hampshire; Director of the University Office of Sustainability Tom Kelly, Ph.D., is the founding director of the University Office of Sustainability (UOS) and Chief Sustainability Officer at the University of New Hampshire, where he collaborates with faculty, staff, students and others in the development of curriculum, operations, research and engagement policies, practices and initiatives related to UNH’s four educational initiatives in biodiversity, climate, culture, and food. Co-editor and co-author of “The Sustainable Learning Community: One University’s Journey to the Future” (2009), Dr. Kelly has been working in the field of higher education and sustainable development for more than fifteen years in the US as well as Colombia and Brazil. Current activities include working with UNH colleagues and outside partners on the UNH organic dairy research farm, Food Solutions New England, Carbon Solutions New England, the Ecology, Climate and Health Working Group, and more. | LUNCH SPEAKER | Richard Walega![]() Region 1 Director, Dept. of Housing and Urban Development Richard A. Walega was sworn in on March 22, 2010, as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Regional Director, serving the six states in HUD’s New England Region which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. As the Regional Administrator, Walega will serve as HUD’s liaison to mayors, city managers, elected representatives, state and local officials, member of Congress, private and non-profit developers, stakeholders and customers. He will oversee the delivery of HUD programs and services to communities and evaluate their efficiency and effectiveness. Walega is one of 10 regional directors in the United States.
