APA Boston 2011 Conference – Call for Proposals
The Local Host Committee (LHC) is seeking conference session and mobile workshop proposals for the APA National Planning Conference to be held in Boston on April 9-12, 2011.
During the past two years, the APA National Conference included a Symposium on Delta Urbanism/Coastal Development which included conference sessions and mobile workshops on topics such as sea level rise, climate change, and hazard mitigation.
Through this request, the LHC is seeking proposals on Delta Urbanism/Coastal Development and a wide variety of planning-related topics unique to the New England region. New England generally, and Boston in particular, is a place where forces of tradition and innovation seem to be in constant, creative tension. To provide some thematic coherence to the conference sessions or mobile workshops, the LHC would ask that each proposal include a sentence or two about how the proposed conference session or mobile workshop would address issues of tradition and innovation.
To assist you in your proposal submittal, the LHC suggests the following additional topics to spur, rather than limit, thinking relative to conference session and mobile workshop proposals:
- Sustaining Places
- Corridors – transportation, scenic, knowledge, environmental
- Resource Protection – historic, cultural, natural
- City/Town/Institutional relationships
- The changing role of downtowns
- Revitalization of industrial communities
- Waterfront/seaport planning
- Public/private partnerships
The deadline for submitting local conference sessions and mobile workshop proposals is July 27, 2010. The deadline for submitting general session proposals to APA is August 24, 2010. Please submit the following information online at http://www.planning.org/conference/proposals.htm:
- Name of Conference Session or Mobile Workshop
- Three Learning Objectives (15 word maximum per objective)
- Three sentence summary of the conference session or mobile workshop (50-60 words): This summary will be edited for the conference program description. Make certain it is well written and thorough.
- Description of the conference session or mobile workshop content (200-300 words)
- Names and organization/firm of Conference Session or Mobile Workshop speakers
