Assistant Planner – Municipal and Regional Assistance

The State of New Hampshire, Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSI) – Planning Division located in Concord, NH has a full time vacancy for an Assistant Planner, who will assist with administrative and implementation activities for the Division’s planning programs including the Municipal and Regional Assistance Program, the State Data Center, and the Council on Resources and Development.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintains a high level of knowledge and information regarding general planning and land use activities in New Hampshire.
  • Works with OSI staff on training activities for local land use boards, including planning conferences and the preparation of handbooks and other technical planning documents.
  • Provides guidance to municipalities and other stakeholders on OSI’s planning programs.
  • Maintains various databases on planning/land use activities and keeps the planning section of OSI’s website up to date.
  • Provides direct assistance to state agencies, regional planning agencies, municipalities and the general public with regard to questions related to land use issues, including smart growth and water related issues.
  • Assists planning program staff on various office programs such as the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP), the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and the State Data Center.
  • Provides administrative support for Council on Resources and Development (CORD), under supervision of senior staff, including the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, and other related duties.
  • Provides support to initiatives identified in the CORD Report on Growth Management and the State Development    Plan. Support may involve organizing various stakeholder meetings, preparing guidance materials on priorities identified in the Plan.
  • Represents OSI Director as a designee to, or member of, state and interstate boards and commissions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in planning, economics, geography, government, law, business/public administration, resources management, natural resources planning, environmental science, environmental law, community development, architecture or a related field.

Experience: Two years’ experience in professional planning or experience in a related field.

OR

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in planning, economics, geography, government, law, business/public administration, resources management, natural resources planning, environmental science, environmental law, community development, architecture or a related field.

Experience: Three years’ experience in professional planning or experience in a related field.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Municipal or regional planning experience desirable.

Salary range between $40,092 – $47,229 commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits.
