Status: Full-Time (37.5 hours/week)

SUMMARY: Primary duties include but are not limited to the inspection and enforcement of codes related to housing, land use and zoning.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Experience in building construction, zoning and land use, and inspection and enforcement work. A high school diploma with post-secondary education is required, associate’s degree or higher preferred.

WORK ACTIVITIES: The Code Enforcement Officer must be highly motivated and have knowledge of building construction, zoning and land use, inspection and enforcement; have excellent communication skills; be computer literate, and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with owners, tenants, property managers, and City officials. Applicants must have the ability to withstand exposure to varied climatic conditions, maneuver over uneven terrain, and climb stairs and ladders for code-related inspection activity.

All applicants must possess a valid Maine driver’s license with good driver record and have access to an insured vehicle to use at work. Preference will be given to individuals with a current State of Maine Code Enforcement Officer Certification; however, non-certified applicants must be able to obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
