JOB DESCRIPTION
Applications are now being accepted for the position of CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/ SANITARIAN. Applications are available at the Human Resources Department or online at www.lewistonmaine.gov.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Division: Planning & Code Enforcement
Barg. Unit: MSEA
Status: Full-Time (37.5 hours/week)

SUMMARY: Primary duties include but are not limited to inspection and enforcement activities associated with food service establishments, housing, and land use and zoning.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Experience in food service, housing and zoning and land use, and related inspection and enforcement work. A high school diploma with post-secondary education is required with an associate’s degree or higher preferred.

WORK ACTIVITIES: The Code Enforcement Officer/Sanitarian must be highly motivated and have knowledge of food service, housing, and land use and zoning inspection and enforcement; have excellent communication skills; be computer literate, and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with owners, property managers, and City officials. Applicants must have the ability to withstand exposure to varied climatic conditions, maneuver over uneven terrain, and climb stairs and ladders for code and food service related inspection activity.

All applicants must possess a valid Maine driver’s license with good driver record and have access to an insured vehicle to use at work. Preference will be given to individuals with a current State of Maine Code Enforcement Officer Certification who are, or can be, standardized by the Department of Health and Human Services to undertake food service inspections within four (4) months of employment. Non-code enforcement certified applicants must be able to obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
